Milton Keynes Marathon- Do you want to volunteer?

The Milton Keynes marathon and half marathon are now just around the corner, and if you've been preparing to take part you're sure to be well aware of how soon it is coming up. With just just 2 weeks to go, the marathon takes place on Bank Holiday Monday the 4th May starting at 10am, and this is the fourth year it has taken place.

As well as the main marathon, there is also the half marathon and then the Superhero fun run, so there's the opportunity for everyone to get involved. If you're not planning on doing the running, then why not head down and watch, or even better, sign up as a member of the event crew.

There are two main ways of getting involved as a member of the event crew on the day, and these are either in the stadium area or on the course. In the stadium, volunteers are needed to help with registration, information, baggage, marshalling, rewards and giving out medals at the finish. On the course, marshals will be needed to ensure safety at intersections and direct runners along the right route. As well as these two main areas, volunteers will be needed in photography, for driving and entertainment.

If this sounds like something you'd like to get involved with, you can sign up to volunteer online by clicking here. It can be a long and tiring day, but hopefully the sun will be shining and it'll be a great opportunity to get involved in something for the local community. You'll receive a medal for your hard work, as well as a packed lunch on the day and an Event Crew T-shirt to wear. You'll also get a medal at the end of your shift, and an invite to a special Event Crew thank you party, on Saturday 9th May.

There are a number of ways to get involved for all the family, whether you're planning on taking part, volunteering or cheering on the runners, as they raise some much needed funds for a selection of great charities. The 4th May is set to be a great day, and with temperatures set to rise it'll hopefully be nice and sunny; you may even find yourself needing that suncream...

Race for 2015- Sign up now!

If your New Years resolution is to get fit and running, you might find it helpful to have something to aim for. Often the big events aren't noticed until the day, when you might find yourself wishing you'd signed up if you'd known about it (or being glad you didn't!). Why not make 2015 the year you sign up for a race or event, and give yourself the January kick-start to get up and out?! We've found a collection of local running events for you to choose from...

The Milton Keynes Half Marathon and Festival of running take place on the 8th March, which gives you just under 2 months to train if you start now! The races start on the central dual-carriageways of Milton Keynes and then continue around some great scenery. There are 5K, 10k, the half marathon and a new one for this year, the MK20 miler. This means you've got the choice with whether to aim high and train hard, or go for the shorter 5k, which will still be a challenge but a bit more fun and relaxed (you'd hope!) Entry fees vary depending on the distance, but prices start at £8 for the 5K. For more information, prices and to sign up, click here.

What to do this bank holiday Monday in Milton Keynes...

Bank holiday weekends always tend to fill themselves up with family and friends visiting, jobs to be done and of course a bit of an extra long snooze, but if you're still looking for something to do with your bank holiday Monday, we've got a few ideas for you...

Hollington Wood are holding their annual Bluebell day, where the woods are open for free for visitors to explore as they wish, as well as see the pigs and piglets, enjoy a guided tour of the woods and, as the name suggests, see the carpet of bluebells on display. The woods are open from 10am-6pm, and  refreshments will be available, including their very own sausages cooked on fire bowls. A great day out and lots to see, make the most of this open day to enjoy these local woods which aren't usually open to the public.

Woolaston Courtyard is holding a wedding fayre and fashion show for all prospective brides, grooms and their families. 11am-4pm, as well as clothing will be photography, locations, entertainment services and more. Head that way if you've got a wedding to plan!

The MK marathon and half marathon are taking place across the city on Monday as well. While you'll be too late to sign up, if you're not already running, you might want to watch from a point, or otherwise avoid the areas where it will be taking place as the roads will be closed for the duration.

Then of course you've got all the usual events in Milton Keynes to keep you busy, there's the regular charity quiz night at the slug and lettuce in the theatre district, and the comedy open mic night at Robinsons wine bar in Newport Pagnell.

Whatever you do this bank holiday weekend, we hope you have a great time!
